General Manager – Bangor Water District
The Bangor Water District is seeking a dynamic and collaborative management professional to serve as General Manager. 
Bangor Water District is a quasi-municipal organization providing drinking water and fire protection to portions of 6 communities serving over 11,000 customers. A staff of 32 employees are committed to the mission of providing the highest quality drinking water.  Bangor’s water comes from Floods Pond, a pristine and unfiltered source of supply. Its state-of-the-art treatment and pumping facilities have recently been upgraded featuring UV, ozone, and chloramines for disinfection. Its distribution system consists of nearly 200 miles of pipe, some portions over 100 years old.
Located in east-central Maine, Bangor is 1-2 hour’s drive from some of the best recreational areas Maine has to offer. It is about an hour to Acadia National Park and Schoodic Peninsula, 2-hours to Baxter State Park and Mt Katahdin, and about 2-hours to the two major ski areas in Maine, Sugarloaf, and Sunday River. In addition, the Bangor City Forest, Orono Bog boardwalk, and multiple land trust properties in the region offer year-round walking, biking, X-country skiing, and snowshoeing opportunities. The city has an active arts scene with several theater companies and the longest continuously operating symphony orchestra in the country. Reporting to the seven-member Board of Trustees, this position manages the day-to-day operations and administration of this District with an operating budget of $9.3 million.
The successful candidate will be an experienced, visionary leader with exceptional management, organizational, and interpersonal skills and must have a demonstrated record of ethical leadership that creates a cohesive work environment that garners the confidence and respect of the employees and the community. The General Manager must have excellent internal and external communication skills, be results driven, and foster a work environment that promotes employee involvement and accountability. Residency within 30 miles of the District is a requirement.
